Unwork to Travel Resources
Here you can find tools that we use and endorse for Unworking and Travel.
1. Web Design
If you plan to create a blog using WordPress, which you should, then hosting via Bluehost is a no-brainer! Bluehost is one of the most used and recognizable hosting services in the market, and what we have used since day one. They offer amazing 24/7 support, which we have taken advantage of on a number of occasions. It is also set up to play very nice with WordPress, which is extremely important for blogging.
Divi by Elegant Themes
This is one of the steeper investments that we made early in our online business career. If you want to start out with a paid theme, or you are ready to step up from a free theme to a paid theme, the elegant themes package will afford you access to all of their premium themes, but most importantly, the Divi theme. Divi uses drag and drop to customize your site, making it push-button easy, literally. Combine that with great customer service, and the fact that it is one of the most popular paid themes, and getting answers to your design related questions is a breeze.
Audio & Video equipment for podcasting and Youtube
GoPro Hero 6
With improved stabilization, the ability to take a bump and go swimming without a case, and a myriad of attachment options, it is hard to beat the GoPro Hero 6. We use it for both action and vlog style videos.
Zoom H6 Handy Recorder
This is an unbeatable tool for podcasting and improving the audio quality of your videos. Diverse enough to use without a mixing board in a home studio, and small enough to take on the trail/road for field interviews, the Zoom H6 is the backbone of our podcasting setup.
ATR 2100 Microphone
With both USB and XLR output, a built-in headphone jack, and sound quality on par with microphones that cost five times as much, the ATR 2100 is a no-brainer for the podcaster on a budget.
Books & Learning
Heath Armstrong’s Sweet ass Journal
We love the Sweet Ass Journal. It was a key part of the transformation we made when we rebranded as Unwork to Travel, quit our jobs, began minimizing, and started our existence as digital nomads. This is a great journal to get you started on your own unworking journey!
The miracle morning by Hal Elrod
As I mentioned in Four Productive Habits of Successful People, a morning routine is one of the keys to boosting your productivity for the entire day. And Hal Elrod is, quite literally, the master of the morning routine. This book is the perfect starting point if you are looking to implement a morning routine of your own.
Crush It, by Gary Vaynerchuck
If you know anything about the world of online entrepreneurship, then you have almost certainly heard of Gary V, and if you haven’t, then get acquainted with via Crush It. This book has been the spark that ignited the careers of many successful online entrepreneurs.
Pimsleur Language Learning App
If traveling to foreign countries is near the top of your wish list, then learning a foreign language probably is not too far behind it. Unfortunately, many language programs are designed more for academic use than for conversing with locals. Enter the Pimsleur method. I personally use this app, and I absolutely love it. It has you speaking from day one, and with 30 minutes of practice each day, you will be conversing on a basic level in a month! With 50 languages available, you are bound to find one you are interested in.
Better yet? Pimsleur Language Programs is now offering a free, seven-day trial, and access to the full program only costs 14.95 USD per month after that!
House & Pet Sitting Resources
We had great success pet sitting with Rover. The signup process is simple, and once you are on Rover just set up your services and calendar then wait for clients to contact you! This is a great way to come by a free place to stay while traveling and get paid to do it, as long as you love fur babies as much as we do!
Trusted Housesitters is the number one housesitting resource in the world. The yearly fee will be paid worth it even if you only house sit once every two or three years! We are currently in the process of booking our first sit with Trusted Housesitters, so we will update soon and let you know how it goes!
We agonized long and hard, trying to decide what travel backpack we would use for our trip to Europe. Then, Tortuga launched the Setout and made it easy for us. We are currently using this pack as our one bag (apiece) as we travel. It is tough, it holds a ton, and it easily compresses to fit on budget airlines. In short, if you can only own one travel bag, this is the one we recommend.
